When I started my new career 5 years ago, I never thought that one day I would be giving intercultural training to children.
How do you explain what is important to know about Switzerland to such a young audience?
What kind of material to use to make it relevant and interesting for them?
As a mother of an eight-year-old daughter myself, I am inspired by her activities, her games and her interactions with other children. I try to see the world through her eyes and observe how she begins to deal with cultural differences.
In my last training I had wonderfully curious, open and eager to learn six-year-old assignees who had arrived in Switzerland a week before.
We spent a couple of hours looking at pictures of children’s favourite activities and customs in Switzerland and completing a map of their new home together. They discovered the largest lakes, the highest mountains and waterfalls, as well as typical Swiss dishes.
Their engagement, the warm hugs and the end of the training were the most heartwarming feedback I received from my lovely assignees.
